Flora Europaea the original Linnean specimen (catalogued as Panicum dactylon L.) perennial, GH, 2n=18,36, diploid, tetraploid mesic, from the steppe up to the lower nemoral, a segetal and ruderal weed Eragrostietalia, Amarantho-Chenopodion albi, Lolio-Plantaginion, Polygonion avicularis, Festuco-Brometea, Festucetalia vaginatae, Festucion pseudovinae R87 habitats as a segetal and ruderal, an invader in the grasslands of R34, R37, R15, R16, R64 habitats; it can be a bative of the arenophile grasslands         A very common ruderal grass.
